Common Questions
Tree Removal FAQ
Answers to the questions Eau Claire homeowners ask before scheduling tree work.
How quickly can you respond to an emergency tree removal?
We offer 24/7 emergency service and typically respond within 1-2 hours for urgent situations in Eau Claire and surrounding areas.
Do you handle storm damage cleanup?
Yes. We provide full storm damage tree removal including fallen trees on structures, blocked driveways, and yard cleanup.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We carry full liability insurance and workers' comp. We provide certificates of insurance upon request.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Eau Claire?
Permit requirements vary by municipality. For trees on private property within Eau Claire city limits, most removals don't require permits, but we handle permit research and filing when needed.
When is tree removal necessary?
Tree removal is necessary when a tree is dead or dying, structurally compromised (large dead limbs, decay, cavities), leaning dangerously toward a structure or utility line, storm-damaged beyond saving, or causing foundation, sewer, or driveway damage. We also remove trees when a property is being cleared for construction or landscaping. If you are unsure whether a tree needs to come down, we can come out for a free assessment.
What is the difference between crane-assisted and standard removal?
Standard removal uses sectional takedown: a climber works from the top, cutting and rigging sections down with ropes, piece by piece. Crane-assisted removal lifts whole sections at a time using a crane — it is faster, often safer on very large trees, and produces less yard impact because the crane sets cut sections down gently. We recommend crane work for trees over about 60 feet, trees with significant lean, and any situation where sectional takedown would risk damage to surrounding property.
How do you handle trees near power lines?
We follow utility-safe work practices and maintain required clearance distances from power lines. For trees close to energized lines, we coordinate with the local utility to de-energize or cover the lines before any cutting begins. We never allow limbs, ropes, or equipment to contact live wires. If a tree is tangled in or bearing on a utility line, that is treated as a utility emergency — call us and we will dispatch the right crew.
Do you remove the stump too?
Stump removal is a separate service quoted alongside the tree removal. Most removals include grinding the stump 6-18 inches below grade so the area is ready for topsoil and seed. For building pads, driveways, or full root removal, we can pull the stump with the root ball using an excavator. We will walk you through the options during the estimate.
Will my property be damaged during removal?
Damage to your property is the number-one thing we work to prevent. Every job starts with a walk-around to identify fragile landscaping, fences, septic lines, and marked utilities. We use rigging and controlled lift points for every section, lay ground protection where needed, and clean up before we leave. We carry full liability insurance in case something unexpected happens, but in twenty-plus years we have rarely had to use it.
